The procedure usually requires two sessions. First the dentist will prepare your tooth for a crown, filing it down into a shape that best accommodates the prosthetic restoration. Dental impressions are then taken, which will be sent to a laboratory. You’ll be given a temporary crown while you wait for your crown to be made. When it’s ready, your dentist will fit your restoration, cementing it in place using a bonding agent.
